Our Story

The Nsikak Essien Foundation for Creative Arts was founded in 2021 in honor of Nsikak Okon Essien (1957-2020), a prominent artist, educator and art experimenter in Nigeria.
Among other achievements, Nsikak was a founding member of the AKA circle of exhibiting artists, alongside the likes of Prof. El Anatsui and other notable artists. He took on full time studio practice after lecturing at his alma mater, which gave him the privilege to create masterpieces for spaces in the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, among other prestigious locations locally and internationally.
His more than 50-year career, widely recognized as bold and expressive in his philosophy of life, his Christian faith most especially, covers a wide range of socio-political, economic and philosophical issues. Most are intended to explain the state of the human soul, the ideal state it should have, as this is the main cause of problems at the macro level of society, left unchecked.
